Our vibrant economy agenda has always sought to answer key questions: How do we develop an economy where growth is more sustainable? How can we disperse prosperity more equitably? How could people and communities be empowered to realise their true potential?
These are not new questions but they have been given a new impetus in light of the EU referendum result. At a time of such economic and political change, the need to think and act on how we can build a nation with trust and integrity, thriving environments and sustainable growth has never been more pressing.
Today marks the launch of Grant Thornton’s Faces of a Vibrant Economy, a celebration of those individuals at the heart of ensuring a brighter future for the UK and making it a better place to live and to work.
These 100 Faces are people working to realise the full potential of the UK economy and create a society that works better for everyone. Selected for their inspiring leadership, innovation and commitment to social purpose, we hope their stories will inspire others to make their mark and shape a vibrant Britain.
The Faces range from business leaders to charity executives and local government to academic pioneers. They span the private, public and third sectors: from tropical medicine to dairy farming, software engineers to fashion designers. The Faces represent a Britain that is at the forefront of innovation and creates opportunities at every turn.
Collectively, the Faces of a Vibrant Economy are a force to be reckoned with, and it is this power, this drive to do well at the same time as doing good that makes us proud to showcase their achievements.
The Faces will play an integral role as Grant Thornton continues the conversations that inform its thinking and inspires its action to answer those questions about how best to develop a more vibrant economy in the UK.
If recent events have taught us anything, it’s that the country needs to work together to find solutions to common problems. That’s why we have an upcoming programme of initiatives that aims to learn from the experience and expertise of as many people as possible.
For example, over the next nine months we will continue our series of City based inquiries, which kicked off in Sheffield in May. At Vibrant Economy Live Lab’s, we convene business leaders, creative brains, community representatives, among others, for inspirational days of inquiry and transformation. By gathering a cross section of attendees from the public, private and third sectors, we hope to help unlock the full potential of our cities.
We only need to look at the roll call of Faces to feel optimistic about Britain’s future. Their stories should serve as encouragement to us all to try and do more to further develop a more vibrant economy in the UK. Whether that’s changing the way you manage your business and treat your workforce or use technology to seek out the next big breakthrough.
A vibrant economy needs the views and opinions of people from across the country, spanning sectors and drawing support from all industries. That’s why we want to hear from you. To get your ideas, views and support. Please do get involved by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We look forward to hearing from you.
